top ten on kauai, hawaii!
top ten things to do on kauai, hawaii!
actually, the hardest thing about this list was narrowing it down to just 10, but if i could only do ten things in kauai, i would make sure not to miss these…..
1. the na pali coast…. hike, go the beach for a two mile reward (rated the second most dangerous beach in the world) & if you hike out 4 miles you make it to hanakapiai falls. we went all the way to the waterfall: 8 miles of muddy, slippery & dangerous terrain that was totally worth it!
2.luau makaiwa...... because when in hawaii you must attend a luau! this one is smaller than most on the island and centrally located, great food, entertainment & an open bar. also is very educational in the most entertaining way, we learned a lot, the fun way & it's also the only ocean front luau on the island!
3.the beach at polihale state park..... rent a jeep if you can, because, to get to this stunning beach you drive down a bumpy muddy dirt road to the end, many smaller cars couldn’t get through, and it’s so worth it! you make it where the beach meets the mountains on a perfect sandy magical secret beach that’s more secret than the ….. the secret beach
4.the secret beach.....you can drive right up to the trail which isn’t long (about 15 minutes) , just steep down, it’s beautiful, remote, with raging waves ( lots of surfers) backed up by sea cliffs, with a great view of the lighthouse.
5. the kileau lighthouse.... we went just for the lighthouse, but it ended up being great for whale watching!
6. waimea canyon state park.... is the grand canyon's tropical brother, one of the most amazing things to see!
7. poipu beach.... it’s on the south side, so it’s the warmest and sunniest part of the island, it is also the most crowded beach we went to, but you have a good chance of seeing sea turtles and seals just hanging out!
8.kauai juice co..... we discovered their hot sauce at a pizza truck in kappa that mark zuckerberg was casually at, and all of their hot sauces are amazing, local & organic…. but their mango garlic ghost sauce is the most amazing thing my taste buds have ever had, it is spicy, very spicy, but also full of flavor. you can stop by their shop and taste their sauces and get fresh cold brew & cold pressed juices.
9.koloa rum.... local rum made from local sugar cane that offers free tastings every day on the half hour! it is located on kilohana plantation which is amazing in itself, full of artisan shops & a lovely outdoor restaurant and lounge!
10. anaina hou farmers market.... the locals farmers market! open saturdays: 9-1 & monday’s: 2-dusk! i saw over a dozen things I had never even heard of before, (try an apple-banana & starfruit )
the most magical party city, or so i was told, i went for my spring break and it was not the happening season, still beautiful but a little too remote an isolated, so tip 1, make sure you go during the popular season mid may - june ( don't go early april.. don't do it!! ) I went to athens ( two days is plenty) & then five days in mykonos, we flew from athens to mykonos and tip 2 don't wear a hat in mykonos because mine flew off the second i got off the plane, and tip 3 don't try to give your cab driver an address in mykonos because fun fact, they don't have addresses there - xoxojackie
post vacay vitals
everytime i travel i tend to get sick, so stared making sure i get to the gym to sweat out all the travel bugs asap and then i fuel up my fool proof three step vitals: 1. smarty pants women's complete multivitamin (it's like multitasking in the vitamin form) 2. vital proteins collagens, to get my digestion back on track,i add it to number 3. real good juice 'bluce-wayne' that gives you bat-like immune fighting strength to help me keep enjoying the everyday! - xoxojackie
when you end up traveling to and from different climates and locations all in a carry on because you aren’t patient enough to wait for your bag and are super scared of it getting lost 😂 packing becomes a skill set! so here are some hacks i’ve found to make it a little easier!
the best carryon I’ve found is by away, the bigger carryon that charges your phone on the go and comes with a built in laundry bag 🙌🏻 you can shop it :HERE
warm or cold you have to be ready to hit the beac, hotel pool or snow resort hot tub! I have a chic one piece from oneone swimwear that comes with its own travel pouch so no worry about wet suits and it’s perfect for all social occasions. shop the gigi bees plunging reversable one piece :Here
that carryon life means all those toiletries must be under three ounces. well those little cvs/walgreens ones don’t cut it for this girl. i found this set of refillable travel friendly containers (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shaving cream, even a spray bottle for my body oil) that come in a clear pouch in case of spills. get the isaac mizrahi travel bottle kit :HERE!
an electric toothbrush is something I’ve gotten very used to. but not very travel friendly. well… goby makes ones that has an easy replacement head for only $6 that can come off and on in a second. they just came out with an all black one with an all black replaceable head that’s deifinitly at the top of my christmas list! but i have their pink one 💕 shop it :Here!
obviously different temps means different humidity aka hair troubles. my harry josh pro tools dryer is travel friendly sized and an ion blow dryer to help keep my mane frizz free in all conditions. shop :Here!
Along with the Harry Josh pro tools premium oval brush for quick on the go brush throughs that done ruin the curls 👌🏻 Shop :Here!
fall is scarf weather no matter where you are, Iilove versatile ones that can be made into a shall or a scarf or an in-flight blanket. the options are really endless, my go too is zara’s beige smooth feel scarf with frayed edges that you can shop :Here!
sleep! Is something that we need always but a little extra when traveling and lighting conditions aren’t always the best so I’m a big fan of an eye mask. i’ve found the 100% silk eye mask by slip is anti-aging and anti bed head for the win! shop it :Here!
makeup is a duh 🙄 travel pack not a hack but a tinted moisturizer like no7 city light tinted moisturizer with spf 15 is a quick wash all weather friendly travel base! shop it :Here!
& a quick non clumping volume eyes mascara by kiko that is also a serum to help your eyelashes grow longer. shop it :Here!
& a lot of black clothing 😂
